Welcome to my website where I would like to share with you my enthusiasm and interest for textiles and lacemaking in particular. I live in Glasgow, Scotland, but through my lacemaking I have friends all over the world.
I have always been interested in textiles — knitting, crochet, embroidery, sewing and, later, weaving and spinning — so when, back in 1979, I found a book about bobbin lacemaking in a local bookshop I bought it because it was something I hadn’t tried and it looked interesting. It took me a while to find out where to get bobbins and suitable thread (no internet in those days) so progress was very slow until I found Glasgow Lace Group and discovered lace days and The Lace Guild. I started teaching bobbin lacemaking twenty years ago in 1987, and that was also the year when I won first prize for a Bedfordshire lace handkerchief at the Royal Highland Show and submitted a successful Bucks Point folio for The Lace Guild’s Assessment scheme. All of which seemed a good enough reason to celebrate by setting up my own website in 2007.
Here you will find pictures of some of my lace, some patterns and articles previously published elsewhere, information about the books I’ve written, and something about my teaching. In addition I will be featuring pieces from my lace collection, books from my lace library, or something related to lace that interests me and perhaps you too. The final section will be about some of my other textile interests. I am happy to answer questions — please use the feedback form. As I may not be able to answer immediately, however, please be patient.
