My name is Jean Leader and I live in Glasgow, Scotland, but through my lacemaking I have friends all over the world. I design, make, teach and write about lace, and have served as chairman of The Lace Guild and president of the International Organization of Lace (I.O.L.I.). In recognition of my work for lace and lacemaking I received the Marsh Heritage Crafts Volunteer Award. I have been running this personal website for about fifteen years, and also maintain a site devoted solely to describing different types of lace. You can explore my site from the section headings above, or jump straight to a topic of interest using the ‘Quick Selection’ pop-up menu, below.
My Other WebsiteAt one time these pages contained a section describing different European lace styles. Eventually this outgrew its home, and so a separate site was created for it: Lace Types.
New and Noteworthy
Once again we bring you our traditional lace advent calendar, with a new window to open each day. Eight windows have clues for the competition, and two have links (from the dates) to patterns for the pieces, so you can make them for your Christmas tree.
I was in California in October filming another video with John Hensel, a former professional Hollywood cameraman. This new title — “Introduction to Bucks Point” — will be available next year. However, I brought back some copies of our four previous ones, which lacemakers in Britain will be able to purchase directly from me in pounds sterling, without the cost of international postage. Prices of the individual titles — available on DVD or USB stick — can be found in Books &c.
